I'm a devotee of such shops. I live in Greenfield and shop at The Barn, yet experiences at Deals and Steals cause me to no longer shop there.
I bought granola at Deals and Steals which turned out to be infested with moths. They filled my food cabinet and have been difficult to get rid of.
I bought a five-pound bag of raw chick peas at Deals and Steals that were so hard they could not be cooked. I think that happens to dry peas and beans when they are old. I don't get to Northampton often, and when I do Deals and Steals is often closed (nights and Sundays), thus about three months later I was able to bring in the peas and request a refund. Management declined, advising me that too much time had passed since I purchased them.
Thus, I've purchased some food at Deals and Steals that was infested, and some that could not be eaten, and experienced a quality of customer service that was less than one would hope for. I now shop elsewhere.
