The douglas transfer station is in my opinion - an unacceptably bad experience. The board of health however makes up for it by being pleasant, helpful, professional and .. just nice.
I'm new to town and I've had some issues with the Transfer station. To make a long story short I marched down to the BoH to demand a refund for my dump sticker. I was angry. I was ready for a fight. I had blown it up into an epic battle between myself and the board of health...
But when I got there, something else happened. I said 'I'd like to be refunded for this dump sticker' ... and David McCallum made it easy. He said the dump isn't for everyone and it's better for everyone if I don't like it, to not use it. He was absolutely right - and he also explained some of the regulations that the transfer station has to deal with - and while that's no excuse for the rude and overbearing agents of the transfer station, it did help me to understand maybe why they are so grumpy.
Anyway - This review isn't a ding against the transfer station, it's praise for David and the Douglas Board of Health. That level of respect and just general good naturedness is to be applauded. I left today with no dump sticker, but feeling better about having moved to this town.
