My elderly mother was placed here because she was experiencing psychosis episodes. She was hearing voices. The doctor diagnosed her with a UTI and a bad ear infection. After treating her for about 3 days she was released. Within an hour of being released, she was back at St Lukes and placed back at Southcoast Behavioural. I called the doctor the day before to advise him that my mother was still paranoid and hearing voices when I went to visit her. He never returned my phone call. Upon my mother's second bout with this joke of a place, I got a phone call from the social worker about my mother's stay and was requesting a family meeting. It appeared to me they were more concern about the insurance payment than her health. The doctor chalked it up as delirium due to the ear infection. He releases her without any med nor any followup. We took her to her primary physician and we were told her UTI was not significant enough to cause this or the ear infection. She couldn't believe they didn't do an MRI or specific bloodwork. How does a person even though elderly go from being fully functional to having this psychotic episodes. She jumped on it and had her placed at St. Anne's for thorough care. Her primary also had a meeting with Board of Directors about her care at Southcoast Behavioural and they were not happy. I am also going to see what I can do to initiate an investigation. Don't bring your loved ones here. There are better facilities out there.
This place is a JOKE. if you have a family member that suffers from severe bipolar depression DO NOT SEND HERE. finally we got the help my family member needed in Boston. This place may look nice but it is horrible. The doctors just put you on all kinds of medications... They never talk to family, never asking about base information. Never checking past history. Do not go here if you suffer from severe psychosis. We finally got my family member out, mount aubern in Cambridge mass made it better in less then a week. 4 months of hell with this place. There cure is to OVER MEDICATE. STAY AWAY.
